Practical civil and geotechnical solutions for the Sunshine Coast.
Tetra Engineering provides practical engineering support for residential, municipal, and renewable energy projects across coastal British Columbia. Our work combines field experience, analytical rigour, and clear communication to deliver buildable, regulator-ready designs.
Geotechnical and Hazard Assessments
Geotechnical hazard evaluations for residential, commercial, and municipal projects, including slope stability, creek erosion, coastal flooding, and retaining wall design. Deliverables include concise reports, safe building area plans, and letters of assurance for development permits.
Sewerage System Design
Design and review of on-site sewerage systems, including Type 1, 2, and 3 configurations, raised sand mounds, and Eljen module layouts. Services include site evaluation, infiltration design, and coordination with Vancouver Coastal Health for filing and inspection.
Civil and Servicing Design
Design of small-scale civil works such as grading, drainage, and watermain extensions for subdivisions and redevelopment projects. We focus on efficient layouts that simplify permitting and construction.
Hydrology and Watershed Studies
Hydrological analyses for site development, stormwater planning, and renewable energy projects. Services include flow monitoring, runoff estimation, sediment and erosion control, and watershed modelling for feasibility and design optimization.
Renewable Energy and Infrastructure Feasibility
Assessment and conceptual design for hydroelectric and other renewable systems. Support includes hydrometric analysis, licensing guidance, environmental monitoring plan preparation, and cost feasibility studies for energy and water projects.
Tetra Engineering Ltd. is led by Micah Smith, P.Eng., a professional engineer with over 15 years experience, based in Gibsons, BC. Micah’s work spans geotechnical hazard assessments, residential foundations and retaining walls, on site sewerage systems, civil servicing, and hydrology for both development and renewable energy projects.
Micah has experience delivering permit ready hazard assessments and construction field reviews for projects across the Sunshine Coast. Earlier work included operating and supporting run of river hydro facilities, hydrological modelling for revenue prediction and design, site selection systems for new hydro projects, and environmental monitoring plans. He has consulted with First Nations and small communities on energy and water projects, and has taught run of river hydropower at the college level.
The approach is straightforward. Confirm site realities in the field, define constraints clearly, and provide recommendations that are safe, constructible, and right sized for the client and the authority having jurisdiction.
